Prairie Lakes Unit, Three Lakes Wildlife Management
Access: Canoe Creek Section of Three Lakes.
Approximately 25 miles south of St. Cloud on SR 523
(Canoe Creek Road), or approximately 10 miles north of
the corner of 441 and Canoe Creek Road on Canoe Creek Road
This area boasts excellent hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, jogging, picnicking, boating, kayaking, canoeing, and camping (permit required). The habitat is pristine for bird life. On a regular basis, we see eagles, hawks and other bird life. Don’t forget to bike or hike to either of the Observation Structures to enjoy scenic views of the Prairie Lakes Unit. The first Observation Structure is located on the east side of Road 16, immediately after Camping Area B, or the first water control structure. This is a beautiful trail that can be biked or walked to a dock structure. The second Observation Structure is a tall tower that can be found off Road 18 in the most southern portion of the Prairie Lakes Unit along side Jackson Kissimmee Canal.
Hunting: One of the greatest hunting areas in the Prairie Lakes Unit is directly across the street from camp/picnic area A. Walk directly across the dirt road from camp/picnic site A (south/west). Walk directly through the palmettos into the prairie field. Here you will see a large head in front of you to the right. Walk any where from 100 to 1000 yards, set your stand, and be there before sunup until approximately 2:00 p.m., and you will be sure to see bucks, wild boar, turkey and a wide species of birds. The hunting is great on either side of the head.
